Make Easter extra fun with this easy chocolate peanut butter egg recipe for kids! A fun, no-mess alternative to traditional egg dyeing—perfect for family fun and homemade treats.
Why Dye When You Can Dip?
Looking for Some Easter Fun? A tradition that’s fun, creative, and tasty? This year, skip the messy dye kits and try something your kids will love just as much—homemade peanut butter eggs dipped in chocolate!
They’re a fun alternative to egg dying, and double as adorable edible crafts and festive treats for Easter baskets, dessert tables, or classroom goodies.
Homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs Recipe
These are just like the popular store-bought version—but even better because they’re made with love!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter (we love this one)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar (see favorite here)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips (melting wafers work great!)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil or vegetable shortening (for smoother dipping)
- Optional: Easter sprinkles, mini candies, or colored drizzle (cute sprinkle sets here)
Instructions: How to Make the Magic
Step 1: Make the Peanut Butter Dough
In a large bowl, mix peanut butter, softened butter, vanilla, salt, and powdered sugar until a soft dough forms. Chill for 20–30 minutes to make shaping easier.
Step 2: Shape Into Eggs
Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough and form into an egg shape using your hands. Place on a parchment -lined baking sheet and chill again for at least 30 minutes.
Step 3: Melt the Chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips with a spoonful of coconut oil in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and glossy.
Tip: Use a chocolate dipping set for less mess and cleaner results.
Step 4: Dip & Decorate
Using a fork, dip each peanut butter egg into the melted chocolate and tap off the excess. Place back onto the parchment and decorate with sprinkles, pastel candy drizzle, or mini candy eggs.
Let them set in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

Kid-Friendly & Fun to Decorate
This is a great kitchen activity for kids of all ages:
- Toddlers can help roll and decorate
- Older kids can dip and drizzle
- Everyone gets to taste the rewards!
Set up a little DIY decorating station with pastel sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, and candy eyes for fun creations.

Wrap Them Up for Easter Treats
These chocolate peanut butter eggs also make adorable gifts. Wrap them in clear treat bags with pastel ribbons and add to Easter baskets or gift to friends and neighbors.
Bonus Tip: Place them in a mini egg carton for the cutest edible Easter gift!

Final Thoughts
Easter is all about creating memories—and these chocolate-dipped peanut butter eggs are a sweet and simple way to do just that. They’re easy to make, fun for kids, and a delicious break from the usual dye mess. Plus, they look just as festive on the table!
